The Sound of the Sea Breathing is such beautiful writing. Thank you. The continuous thread between your link with the sea in words and your art is amazing.
I came here via Alexander's postcard this week and what a splendid visual and lyrical feast! At the mention of the white horses, I was reminded of the mythical Mannanan Mac Lir, whose horses would transport the dead to the afterlife.
You've made me think differently about the wind, which at that kind of force simply makes me feel quite mad.
Hello @Safar Fiertze lovely to meet you! Yes, the wind can make me feel a bit unhinged too at times. We've had the stormiest winter anyone here can recall. Plenty of white horses with wild, streaming manes, ready to carry us off to Tir-nan-Og!
I missed last week's Life Raft session due to a power cut cos "storms"...and this week you/we clashed with my tapestry weaving zoom but your inspiration arrives in this gorgeous newsletter with all of the photography and beautiful reflections. I stood once on Mainland side of Birsay in a storm and felt the energy travelling through me as the two currents met and exploded at high tide. It was most humbling.
I hope to be in the space next Wednesday - I need to be in the space next Wednesday!
Growing up in the Midwest I knew only about whitecaps from the description of the sea in books, but a couple of years ago during a cruise through a part of the Western Hebrides I actually saw “white horses”!
Like a snake charmer, though I’m not a dangerous species of snake, the mix of your voice paired with stupendous images enthralled me. Now I feel right sized. With gratitude for you and your creations.
Oh thank you Yasmin! It's wonderful to know I brought a moment of quiet pleasure to your day! The wind has eased a bit today but now we have snow...spring feels a long way off yet!
Indeed so Lisa. I used Raymond Besant's phots this week as my photography skills couldn't do the sea justice! He's a great wildlife cameraman too, and often does work for the BBC.
Your newsletter is such a treat.
Thanks Mike. You will be glad to hear the wind has dropped this morning...but the sea is still thundering on.

Thank you so much Cathie! It's so encouraging to hear this :-)

And to meet you too, Samantha!
You actually manage to make it sound wonderful and gloriously tempestuous :)
Beautiful. The ocean’s inhalation.
This is potent. Thank you!

I am enjoying your writing, as well as seeing your visual work.
Your referencing has introduced me to some valuable new resources that I have followed up.
The Life Raft sessions have become a further important and complimentary space. The companionable working silence is gently powerful.
Thank you.
Thanks Lorna, it's been really lovely having you join us! See you next week I hope!
🌝

That's a pretty good stretch of sea to see them, white manes flying!

Thank you Gary!
I saved this to read while drinking a cup of green tea. Savouring the flavour, and your words, is ten minutes of bliss. Thank you.

No snow here in Cambridgeshire. But I noticed lots of snowdrops on my walk out today. It did feel like the new year has arrived.
Thank you — this is beautiful.
You're so very welcome! Greetings to Sweden from Orkney (which is really part of Scandinavia, you know!)
😊!
I don’t have time to read this before bed but I like it on account of the title, already
Go to sleep with a 'sound of the sea' recording and dream of all those bubbles being born....
Beautiful photos.
I loved listening to this. Mother Nature is so humbling.
